The South Centre organised a virtual three-day capacity building workshop held from 11th to 13th June, 2024 on the Global Minimum Tax, formally known as Pillar Two of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Two Pillar Solution, for officials from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) and the Ministry of Finance of Malaysia. The workshop was carried out under the aegis of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) entered into with IRBM on enhanced co-operation in the field of international taxation.

The technical aspects of the event were organised by the South Centre Tax Initiative (SCTI), which aims to support developing countries in increasing domestic resource mobilization and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and experts from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), India, and the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) were invited.

The purpose of the workshop was to train officials on all technical aspects of the Global Anti-Base Erosion (GloBE) Model rules and Subject to Tax Rule (STTR) of Pillar Two including the interaction of the rules with tax incentives and tax treaties.

The workshop was designed to be interactive and consisted of lectures/presentations followed by Q&A sessions.
